KENT, Ohio – The Mercyhurst wrestling team dropped their season opener 26-9 at Division I Kent State Wednesday night. 

Alexis Soriano got the Lakers on the board at 141 with a 7-3 decision over Avry Mutschler. 

At 174, Trevor Johnson scored a first period takedown and held a 2-1 after the first. Johnson rode out the entire second period and scored an escape to start the third. He was hit with a stall in the third and picked up the extra point for riding time to win 4-2. 

Jacob Robb scored the third victory of the night at 285. A takedown and an escape gave Robb a 3-1 lead in the third. Despite a stall point in the third Robb held on to win 3-2. 

Spencer Head and Trever Begin each dropped sudden victory matches at 157 and 184.
