Women's Ice Hockey Names Alexa Vasko as Team Captain for 2020-21 Season

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team and head coach Michael Sisti have announced that Alexa Vasko will be the Team Captain for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
 
"Over the years, we have been fortunate to have some amazing women, lead our program as our Captain. Our players and staff are proud to announce this year's captain will be Alexa Vasko. Alexa is an elite student-athlete who has thrived in the classroom and on the ice. She is respected for her hard work and strong character. Alexa is a tenacious competitor who will be a tremendous leader for our team," said Sisti.
 
Vasko, a native of Saint Catharines, Ont., will be a senior forward this year. She was one of the three team captains last season, as the Lakers claimed their 17th College Hockey America Regular Season Champion title and 15th CHA Tournament Championship.
 
Last season Vasko was named as the College Hockey America Best Defensive Forward. She played in 34 games with 10 goals and 17 assists. She had five power play goals and one shorthanded goal with a +9 plus/minus rating. She also blocked 36 shots in the defensive zone.
 
Throughout her three years, Vasko has played in 104 games while recording 23 goals and 33 assists. She has blocked 116 shots.
 
"I'm honored to be chosen as the captain for the 2020-21 season for one of the most respected NCAA Division I hockey programs. We have a great group of girls returning, as well as great incoming freshmen, and I can't wait to get the season started," said Vasko.
