WILSON, N.C. --
Luke Baranchak belted a bases-loaded three-run double to left center to lift the Mercyhurst baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Ohio Dominican Friday afternoon at the Wilson Tobs College Classic.
The Lakers trailed 6-1 going to the bottom of the sixth.
Philip Ferranti and
Josh Surowiec picked up back to back singles to open the sixth.
Hunter Snyder was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch scored a run and
Dominic Cecere knocked a two-run single to cut the Panther lead to 6-4.
Mercyhurst relievers kept Ohio Dominican off the board in the seventh and eighth to keep the score 6-4.
Andrew Bailey singled to left and moved to second on Cecere walk.
Casimer Sobaszek drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Behind in the count 0-2 Baranchak squared up a pitch and one hopped the wall clearing the bases and giving Mercyhurst their first lead of the game 7-6.
In the ninth,
Nicholas McRandal got the first out of the inning and
Jack Goonan came in and got the last two outs to pick up the save.
Ohio Dominican scored two in the first taking advantage of a pair of hit by pitches and two singles. The Panthers added one in the second before the Lakers got on the board in the bottom of the frame.
Snyder,
Jack Elliott and Bailey all drew walks before a Cecere sacrifice fly trimmed the lead to 3-1.
Cecere finished 1-for-2 with a walk, three RBI and a run scored. Baranchak also drove in three runs. Ferranti was the only Laker with multiple hits going 2-for-5.
McRandal picked up the win pitching two scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out one. The combination of
Jared Kapturasky, McRandal and Goonan combined for six shutout innings of relief for the Lakers. Kaptarsky picked up four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
The Lakers finish up at the Tobs College Classic on Saturday when they take on Lock Haven at 11:00 a.m.
