WILSON, N.C. --
Luke Baranchak tallied five RBI as the Mercyhurst baseball team notched an 11- 4 victory over Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.
The Bald Eagles built a 3-0 lead through four, but the Lakers trimmed the lead on a two-run home run by Baranchak in the top of the fifth.
In the sixth, Mercyhurst took the lead on a two-run double by
Troy Banks plating
Matthew Gibson and
Dominic Cecere. Baranchak singled home Banks to push the Laker lead to 5-3.
Cecere extended the advantage in the seventh with a double that chased home Gibson. Lock Haven got the run back in the bottom of the frame drawing a bases-loaded walk.
The Lakers tacked on five insurance runs in the ninth keyed by a two-run single from Baranchak to set the final at 11-4.
Baranchak finished with three hits, a walk and a run scored to go with his five RBI. Banks added a pair of hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
Chris Smith picked up his second win of the season going two innings in relief allowing one run while striking out three.
Vincenzo Lucente got the start going four innings allowing three runs and recording six strikeouts.
The Lakers will play their home opener on Friday when they welcome Davenport to the Mercyhurst Baseball Field.
