Baseball Falls to Shepherd

WILSON, N.C. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Shepherd University Thursday afternoon in the opener of the Tobs College Classic.

The Lakers held a 2-1 lead going to the bottom of the seventh, but Jared Carr hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame to lift Shepherd to a 4-2 advantage.

Trailing 1-0, Mercyhurst scored twice in the third. Philip Ferranti singled through the left side of the infield to plate Casimer Sobaszek and Hunter Snyder drew a bases-loaded walk to force across Troy Banks to put the Lakers up 2-1.

Luke Baranchak finished the day 2-for-3 at the dish for the Lakers while also drawing a walk.

Adam Jeannette started for the Lakers taking a no-decision allowing one run on three hits while striking out six in four and a third innings of work.

Trevor Sprinkle picked up the win for the Rams pitching six shutout innings of relief.

The Lakers return to action on Friday when they take on Ohio Dominican. First pitch is set for 10:30 a.m.
