BUFFALO, NY – Two women's ice hockey players earn College Hockey America major awards, while four players were named to All-Conference teams and head coach Mike Sisti was named the CHA Coach of the Year, as announced at the CHA Banquet on Wednesday.
Emma Nuutinen was named the CHA Player of the Year. Nuutinen led the Lakers with 21 goals and 39 points. She had eight power play goals and four game winning goals. She is ranked 13th in the nation with 0.66 goals per game and 20th with 1.22 points per game. Her eight power play goals put her tied for fourth in the nation.
Alexa Vasko was named the CHA Best Defensive Forward. Vasko tallied nine goals, 17 assists and 26 points on the season. She recorded four power play goals, one shorthanded goal and one game winning goal. Vasko blocked 35 shots in the defensive zone.
Nuutinen and
Michele Robillard were named to the CHA All-Conference First Team while
Maggie Knott and
Sam Isbell were named to the Second Team.
Robillard had a break out season with 15 goals and nine assists for 24 points. She picked up five power play goals, one shorthanded goal and three game-winning goals.
Knott scored nine goals with 18 assists for 27 points. She recorded two power play goals, one shorthanded and three game winning goals.
Isbell led the Lakers with 25 assists. She also tallied six for 31 points for third on the Laker roster. She had two power play goals.
Sisti led the Lakers to a 19-10-5, 13-4-3 record. The Lakers were undefeated on home ice with a 12-0-4 record, only the second time in program history to do so.
"Mike has established a level of high expectations for the Mercyhurst women's hockey program. I could not be more proud of the efforts he and his staff have made on and off the ice to bring another regular season championship back to Erie. I look forward to watching the team compete for a tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth this weekend," said Mercyhurst Athletic Director Brad Davis.
Mercyhurst finished the regular season as the CHA Regular Season Champions and will received a first-round bye. The Lakers will play the lowest remaining seed on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
