Offense Lifts Baseball Over Fairmont State

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team belted 16 hits as the Lakers topped Fairmont State 13-2 Monday afternoon at Frank Loria Field.

Casimer Sobaszek gave the Lakers the early lead with his two-run single in the top of the second.  Mercyhurst added on in the third sending 10 batters to the plate and pushing across five runs to make the lead 7-0.

The Falcons scored twice in the fifth to trim the lead to 7-2, but Luke Baranchak provided the insurance for the Lakers with a two-run home run in the eighth.
Mercyhurst added four more in the top of the ninth to set the final.

Hunter Snyder paced the Laker offense with three hits to go with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Josh Surowiec, Jack Elliott and Sobaszek all recorded a pair of hits.

Chris Smith picked up the win going 1.2 innings allowing one hit while striking out three. Laker starter Vincenzo Lucente went four scoreless innings giving up just one hit while striking out six and walking only one.

The Lakers are back in action on Thursday when they take on Sheperd University in Wilson, N.C.
