GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to host Glenville State Saturday afternoon in their second game of the season.
The Lakers got on the board first in the fourth inning.
Luke Baranchak led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a
Josh Surowiec fly out. After a strike out,
Hunter Snyder singled through the middle to plate Baranchak.
The 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the eighth when the Pioneers used a hit by pitch and a pair of hits to take a 2-1 lead.
With two outs in the ninth, Mercyhurst put runners on first and second with a hit by pitch and walk from
Philip Ferranti and
Jordan Zilka, but the comeback bid came up just short.
Michael McDonough picked up a no decision in his Laker debut going five innings allowing no runs, four hits and striking out six.
Justin Studd took the loss on the hill for Mercyhurst.
The Lakers wrap up their opening weekend in Glenville with a 2:30 p.m. game against Davis & Elkins on Sunday.
