GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision to Davis & Elkins in the final day of the opening weekend of competition Sunday afternoon in Glevnille W.Va.
With the score tied 1-1 after three,
Ben Monti gave the Lakers a 2-1 advantage with an RBI groundout plating
Josh Surowiec in the fourth.
Mercyhurst added a run in the fifth on a
Troy Banks solo home run. Surowiec pushed the lead to 4-1 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
The Senators tied the game with a three-run home run in the eighth. Davis & Elkins took advantage of a Laker error to add a pair of runs in the ninth.
The Lakers loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to push across the tying runs.
Jared Kapturasky took the loss in relief allowing two unearned runs.
Jack Elliott,
Philip Ferranti and
Casimer Sobaszek all went 2-for-4 to lead the offense for the Lakers.
Mercyhurst returns to Glenville next Friday to take on Concord University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.Â
