MILLERSVILLE, Pa.—Mercyhurst baseball defeated the PSAC Champion, Bloomsburg 9-8 in the opening round of Atlantic Regional play in 18 innings.

Luke Baranchak and
Dominic Cecere all led the Lakers with three hits each. Baranchak also led the team with two RBI with his final being the Lakers final run of the game sealing the win.
Russell Lamovec (5-3) got the win in relief going eight innings, not allowing a single run and struck out 12. Lamovec was able to get out of three bases loaded jams in extras, including one of them being bases loaded with no outs.Â
Jared Marshman (4-1) of Bloomsburg received his first loss of the year after going six innings, allowing four hits and recorded six strikeouts.
In the second,
Josh Surowiec got the sticks going for the Lakers after singling to center. Later in the inning after a Snyder single and Baranchak hit by pitch, Cecere would single to short right field eventually scoring two runs and take an early 2-0 lead. Baranchak would then score off an error to make it 3-0 before
Matthew Gibson would single to center field scoring Cecere.Â
In the Fourth, Bloomsburg would answer the Lakers four runs with three of their own to make it 4-3. Baranchak would increase the Laker lead to two after a single to third base scoring
Jack Elliott making it 5-3. MU would tack on two more runs in the sixth extending the lead to 7-3, before Bloomsburg would put up five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take its first lead of the game 8-7.Â
Surowiec would come up huge for Mercyhurst in the 8th doubling to right field scoring Schneider to tie the game at eight all. The game would go into extra innings with both teams leaving guys in scoring position but it wasn't until the Baranchak triple to left center would score Surowiec to give the Lakers a 9-8 lead in the 18th. Lamovec would strikeout the final batter of the game for his 12th strikeout to earn the victory.Â
Next Up: The Lakers will face Millersville tomorrow, May 17th, at 2:30 PM. Bloomsburg will play Millersville at 11:00 AM in the first game. Â
