ERIE, Pa. -- The 29th-ranked Mercyhurst men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over PSAC opponent Millersville on Sunday at the Westwood Racquet Club.
The Lakers (10-2, 2-0) won 2 of 3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead before taking 5 of 6 singles matchups, clinching the contest on
Sebastian Pardo's victory at No. 4 singles.
The seventh-ranked duo of
Cormac McCooey and
Unai Amilleta Gonzalez got Mercyhurst started with a 6-2 win at No. 1 pairs over Carlos Martinez-Lucas and Peter Landis before the Lakers' No. 3 pairing of Pardo and
Felix Schmedding secured the lone doubles point with a 6-4 win against Frank Yanni and Rodrigo Lorencin.
In singles action, Amilleta Gonzalez recorded the first MU point, taking a 6-0, 6-3, decision against Yanni at No. 3. Then,
Arseniy Sklyarov gave Mercyhurst a 3-0 edge with his win against Jose Alcazar, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
Millersville (2-11, 0-2) closed the deficit to 3-1 before the Lakers rattled off three straight singles wins. Pardo locked up the Mercyhurst win with his 6-4, 6-2, win over Ben Felman.
Fraser defeated Landis, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, and McCooey defeated Martinez-lucas, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 1 singles.
The Lakers will be in action next when they visit Charleston (W. Va.) for a non-conference match on Friday.
