Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team scored two unanswered goals to take down the Rochester Institute of Technology 2-1 during College Hockey America action on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
With the win, the Lakers locked in the second seed for CHA Playoffs and will play in the semifinals game on March 7.
Alexa Vasko and
Michele Robillard scored for the Lakers while
Sarah Hine,
Summer-Rae Dobson and
Liliane Perreault had assists for Mercyhurst (15-13-5, 12-6-2).
Hunter Barnett scored the lone goal for RIT (12-17-5, 8-11-1).
After a scoreless first period, the Tigers got on the board first with a breakaway goal from Barnett.
The Lakers then scored two goals in 27 seconds to eventually win 2-1.
Vasko tied the game at 1-1 with an assist from Perreault, before Robillard gave Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead. Dobson and Hine added assists to the game winning goal.
Sarah McDonnell had 14 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Terra Lanteigne made 25 saves in net for RIT.
Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play.
Mercyhurst is back in action on Thursday, March 7 in Buffalo, N.Y. for the CHA Playoffs. Opponent TBD.
