ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team will seek to stop their two-game skid this Saturday when they travel to the eastern side of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The challenge however will not be an easy one as the Lakers will meet up with the Warriors of East Stroudsburg at Whitenight Field for a 3:30pm start.
Scouting the Lakers:
Mercyhurst has dropped their last two contests to No. 1 Millersville and Mansfield the record now sits at 2-7 overall and 1-1 in PSAC action. Sophomore goalie
Libby Jones has done her best to keep the Lakers in every game as she has recorded double-digit saves in three games and has totaled 59 stops so far this season. Offensively,
Alexis Skibitsky and
Clare Ahern have led the team with Skibitsky tallying three, while Ahern has picked up one.
Hayley Skidmore,
Lizzy Laird, and
Leah Rogers each have one assist. On the defensive side of the field
Abby D'Amato has posted three defensive saves on her own.
Scouting the Warriors:
East Stroudsburg is coming off a 2-1 win over sixth-ranked Shippensburg University on Wedesday. Their record now sits at 9-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC play. The Warriors come into the game averaging over 21-shots per game, while holding their opponents to just over four. They also put up more than three goals per contest with their competition scoring less than once per game. Celeste Veenstra leads the offense with 24 points on the season with 11 goals and a pair of assists. Karly Conway has ten points thanks to three goals and four helpers. Eleven different players have hit the back of the cage for ESU which allows them to offer a balanced attack. Maddie Richie has started all ten games in goal posting a 0.31 goals against average with an .833 save percentage, while recording six shutouts.
Series History:
East Stroudsburg leads the all-time series with Mercyhurst 13-1. The Warriors took last year's meeting on October 6th with a 4-0 victory in Erie.
Waiting in the Water:
The Lakers return to Saxon Stadium on Tuesday, October 8th when they welcome the Griffins of Seton Hill University for PSAC action at 4pm.
