CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst University football dropped a 27-15 decision to host California Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers trailed 7-0 at the half after Derrick Caraway five-yard touchdown catch at the 2:22 mark of the first quarter.
Mercyhurst grabbed the lead on a 14-yard touchdown catch by
Jason Armstrong and a two-point conversion by
Garrett Owens.
Nelson Brown gave the Vulcans the lead back with a 74-yard touchdown catch. Cal U struck again in the third to extend the lead to 27-8.
Nick Altavilla set the final with a touchdown with 33 seconds left with a seven-yard touchdown catch from
Joe Carter.
Owens picked up 75 yards on the ground to lead the Lakers.
Doug Altavilla passed for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Alex Zacharyasz led the Lakers with 12 tackles, one for a loss. Joe Scro made nine stops.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday when they host Gannon on Senior Day.
