BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --
Cormac McCooey won the singles championship and teamed with
Unai Amilleta Gonzalez for the doubles championship on Sunday at the PSAC Singles/Doubles Championships.
Both McCooey and Amilleta Gonzalez played in Sunday's semifinals; McCooey defeated Edinboro's Mauricio Santos, 6-1, 6-3, while Amilleta Gonzalez fell to Mateus Santos of Edinboro, 7-5, 7-6 (2). Those results set the stage for McCooey's final win against Mateus Santos, 6-3, 6-3.
McCooey and Amilleta Gonzalez teamed for a 8-5 victory in the doubles final over Nolan Perugini and Josh Carl of Kutztown.
With the doubles win, the Laker duo became the first doubles champs for Mercyhurst since MU teams won back-to-back in 2015 and 2016.
Travis Beck and
Nenad Terzic were the 2015 champs before Terzic teamed with Joaquin Aguilera in 2016.
McCooey is just the second Laker to win the PSAC singles title; Terzic won previously in 2014.
