ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team fell 3-1 in its exhibition game against the Markham Thunder on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Emma Nuutinen scored the lone Laker goal with assists from
Molly Blasen and
Rachel Marmen.
Nicole Kosta recorded one goal and one assists for the Thunder while Jamie Lee Rattray and Daniella Matteucci added Markham's other goals. Nicole Brown, Taylor Woods and Kristen Barbara tallied assists.
Rattray opened up the scoring at 3:46 of the first period for Markham. Jones picked up the single assist.
With 13 seconds left in the first period, Nuutinen tipped in Blasen's shot, on the power play, to tie the game. Marmen also had an assist.
During the second period, Matteucci scored a power play goal from Kosta and Brown to take the lead back for Markham. Kosta then extended the Thunders lead to 3-1, assisted by Woods and Barbara.
Kennedy Blair stopped 18 out of 21 shots on net for the Lakers while Elizabeth Knox made 17 saves for the Thunder.
Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play.
The Lakers open up the regular season at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 28-29. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on Friday and 4:07 p.m. on Saturday.
