SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The 47th-ranked Mercyhurst men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Concordia (N.Y.) in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center.

Concordia took all three doubles points and then sealed up the victory with a pair of singles points. When the clinch occurred, Mercyhurst (17-3) was ahead in the four remaining matches.

The Clippers (17-4) took the lead with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles by William Nilsson and Axel Oljons over Mercyhurst's Ruairidh Fraser and Unai Amilleta Gonzalez.

The No. 1 doubles match featured two nationally-ranked pairs as CC's 32nd-ranked team of Alessandro Evangelisti and Eymeric Chevalier bested Mercyhurst's No. 42-rated team of Nenad Terzic and Cormac McCooey, 8-5.

The third doubles match also went to the Clippers as Henry Masters and Michele Fenoaltea took an 8-1 point against Sebastian Pardo and Luke Veselic.

Fenoaltea got Concordia started in singles action with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Veselic at No. 6 singles. That set up a clincher by Nilsson over McCooey at third singles, 6-3, 6-3.

As the clinch happened, Terzic, Fraser, Amilleta Gonzalez and Pardo were ahead in each of their respective matches at Nos. 1,2,4 and 5.

Terzic had the upperhand against Chevalier, who is ranked No. 74 in D-II. Terzic was ahead, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0, when the team match finished.

Fraser had defeated Evangelisti, 6-3, in the first set of his match, but never began the second. Amilleta Gonzalez was looking to close out Oljons as he held a 6-1, 5-2, edge. Pardo had a one-set lead on Masters, 6-4, 2-2.
