Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team had its 2016-17 season end on Thursday night with a 3-2 loss to Lindenwood at the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. The loss was the Lakers first loss in tournament since the 2015 season when the Lakers fell to R.I.T. in the semifinals.

Megan Whiddon tallied her seventh goal of the season 11:06 into the first period. She received a long stretch pass from Taylor Accursi and beat the Lindenwood goaltender Jolene deBruyn one-on-one. Brooke Hartwick picked up a secondary assist.

The Lions fought right back to tie the game at one at 13:15 with a goal from Sarah Bobrowski after she buried a loose puck in a scrum right in front of Mercyhurst goaltender Jessica Convery.

Lindenwood took the lead just eleven seconds into the second period with a score from Britannia Gillanders.

Following Gillanders goal, Lindenwood went on a power play with the chance to take a two-goal advantage. The Lakers ended up killing the penalty and responded with a flurry of chances at even-strength. Callie Paddock launched a seeing-eye shot from the blue line that went into the net to tie the game at two 9:49 into the second period.

Lindenwood found a way to retake the lead in the second period after another chance on the power play. Bobrowski netted her second of the game at 12:37 to put the Lions back out in front 3-2.

deBruyn made several crucial stops in the final period to seal the win for the Lions. She had 27 saves for the game, including eight in the third period.

Convery stopped 23 shots in the loss. Whiddon (1 G, 1 A) and Hartwick (2A) each finished with two points.

Lindenwood advances to take on Robert Morris in the semifinals.

Mercyhurst concludes the 2016-17 season with a 15-18-2 overall record.
