ERIE, Pa. -- The seventh-ranked Mercyhurst wrestling team will travel across town to take on rival Gannon on Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
Mercyhurst (10-3, 5-0) has won 11 out of the 17 times the two teams have competed since 2001. The Lakers have won the last five consecutive matches against Gannon (5-2, 4-2), including a 24-18 victory this season.
The Lakers are coming off of a tight 20-19 victory over Kutztown to extend their win streak to five. Mercyhurst has been undefeated since Jan. 14 when they toppled Seton Hill.
The Golden Knights are currently on a two-match win streak with victories over East Stroudsburg (31-13) and Kutztown (32-7).
The Lakers will have three nationally-ranked wrestlers compete: No. 1
Willie Bohince at 125 pounds; No. 1
Francis Mizia at 165 pounds; and No. 8
Andrew Welton at 285 pounds.
Gannon has two nationally-ranked wrestlers that will likely compete: No. 4 Carmine Ciotti at 133 pounds and No. 12 Eric Lewandowski at 157.
