Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team lost a hard-fought 2-1 game to #7/6 Ohio State on a Buckeye goal with 1:09 remaining in the third period at Mercyhurst Ice Center Friday evening.
The Lakers (6-11-2) scored the first goal of the game at 16:57 in the first period when
Sarah Hine's wrister found the back of the net. The goal was Hine's first of the season and was assisted by
Sarah Robello.
Ohio State (12-3-4) bounced back to tie the game at the 4:30 mark in the second on Maddy Field's ninth of the season.
Nine of the game's 15 penalties were recorded in a feisty third period, but neither team could convert on the man-advantage. Mercyhurst finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, but successfully killed all seven of Ohio State's power plays. The Lakers had a five-on-three advantage for 1:33 early in the period but couldn't cash in.
Ohio State's Liz Schepers buried a loose puck in front of Laker goaltender
Kennedy Blair for the game-winning goal at 18:51 in the final period. Blair made 27 saves in the loss.
Both teams face off tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in their final games before the holiday break.
