The Mercyhurst volleyball team will square off against two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Northwest Division opponents this weekend when they travel to Slippery Rock and Edinboro this weekend. The Lakers are going into this competition at fourth in the PSAC Northwest, Edinboro (13-7, 3-6 PSAC) is second behind Gannon, and Slippery Rock (9-12, 1-8 PSAC) rests in third place. The Lakers walk into this weekend of competition after dropping their last contest against Seton Hill university, they have a 6-14 overall record and a 1-8 PSAC record. A pair of wins could push the Lakers into third place above Slippery Rock in the PSAC Northwest, and jockey them into striking distance of second place Edinboro.
Mercyhust is led by junior
Shelby Chesko who has posted 199 kills for a 2.62 kills per set average, she has recorded 46 blocks and a pair of aces.
Alyssa Zirnheld has recorded 167 kills for a 2.20 kills per set average, she has posted 22 blocks, and is fourth on the team in aces with 17.
Katie Baird rounds out the top three offensive performers she has 166 kills for a 2.21 kills per set average on the season. Baird is tied for second on the team in aces with 21, she has contributed 11 blocks.
Alyssa Kling and
Tess Ganich also have broken the 100 kills threshold with 114 and 110 respectively. Kling posted a 1.5 kills per set average and leads blocks with 62, while Ganich has 1.64 kills per set average.
Makayla Mollé leads both assists and the ace category for Mercyhurst, she has posted 429 aces and 27 aces.
Hannah Vuylsteke leads the Lakers in digs with 310 and is tied for second in aces with 21.
Slippery Rock - Friday, 7pm:
Kaley Fucci lead Slippery Rock with 171 kills for a 2.25 kills per set average she contributed 11 aces and 40 blocks through the season thus far. Erinn Kahoe has added 169 kills for a 2.19 kills per set average, and Brooke Bostwik has addded 153 kills for a 2.01 kills per set average. Zoe Rivet is the primary setter with 404 assists on the season, while Courtney Oberland leads digs with 453.

Edinboro - Saturday, 5 pm:
Cierah Jackson leads Edinboro with 256 kills fo a 3.61 kills per set average, she is followed closely by Challen Litwiler who has posted 223 kills for a 2.86 kills per set average. Edinboro's has two other players who broke the 100 kill threshold for the season Hannah Cnatrill has recorded 111 and Tessa Sikora has added 107. Sydney Trathen has lead assists with 726, and digs with 175.
The Lakers split with Edinboro in the 2016 season, dropping the first game of the season 3-0, but clinching an exciting 3-2 victory during their second meeting of the season.
