Volleyball Preps for First NEC Tournament Appearance

The Mercyhurst volleyball team is set to make history for the Lakers, making in the school's first-ever NEC Tournament appearance. The Lakers are set to take on top-seeded LIU in Brooklyn Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Lakers went 10-6 in NEC competition and secured a spot in the tournament thanks to a sweep of Chicago State last weekend. 
 
Previously From The Lakers:
The Lakers hosted their NEC season finale against Chicago State, winning both games in three sets. Andrea Zaric led the way offensively for the Lakers in both matches against the Cougars, posting 12 kills Friday and 15 Saturday. Zaric took home NEC Prime Performer of the Week honors after her stellar performance against Chicago State. She generated 33 points with 27 kills and six blocks. Zaric also had a .353 hitting percentage last weekend.
 
Alia Mastromatteo and Alyssa Krause helped set the Lakers to a .257 hitting percentage in Friday's match. Mastromatteo had 36 assists and 19 digs, while Krause tallied four aces, 22 assists, and eight digs. 
 
Mia Mattingly continued to be a two-way force for the Lakers. She recorded 10 kills on a .563 hitting percentage, and three blocks. 
 
Series History
Mercyhurst dropped both matches against the Sharks earlier this season in Brooklyn. All-time, the Sharks own a 4-0 record over the Lakers on the volleyball court. In this year's Oct. 10 match, Zaric tallied 11 kills, hitting at a .308 clip.

  • The Sharks finished their season 15-1 in NEC play, with their one defeat coming against Saint Francis.
  • Libero Miabella Musignac won NEC Defensive Player of the Week.
