Box Score STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Sarah Hine and Rachael Smith each scored twice and the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team scored its most goals in a game since November in a 6-0 blanking of Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday, Jan. 27.

The Lakers continue their season-long trend of winning games (9-0) when scoring three or more goals. The shutout was the second of the season for the team and the first of the season for goaltender Sarah McDonnell.

Mercyhurst got their first goal from Smith at the 6:44 mark in the first period. Her even-strength goal was her seventh of the season and was assisted by Sam Isbell and Maggie Knott.

Hine scored her two goals back-to-back in the second period to open 3-0 advantage. Her first came on the power play at 4:33 with help from Brooke Hartwick and Sarah Robello. Fewer than nine minutes later at 13:20, Hine found the back of the net again after a set-up from Jillian Skinner and Paige Horton. Hine's seventh and eighth goals of the season put the Lakers ahead by three entering the third.

In the third, the Lakers continued their dominance by finding the net three more times. Céline Frappier netted her second of the season with assists to Hine and Jennifer MacAskill. After Frappier's goal at 3:42, Taylor Accursi joined the scoring party at 8:24 with her eighth of the campaign. Megan Whiddon and Callie Paddock had helpers on the play.

Smith capped off the Lakers' offensive explosion with her second of the evening and eighth of the year on the power play at 14:58 in the final period. Horton and Knott both earned their second assists of the night on the goal and the Lakers had more than enough firepower to complete the 6-0 victory.

McDonnell only had to stop 13 shots on the night but was perfect in doing so and earned her third win of the season.

The Lakers (9-16-2) are now 5-7-1 in College Hockey America play with 11 points in the conference standings, just one behind PSU. Mercyhurst faces off with the Nittany Lions again tomorrow, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. to complete their regular season series.
