Football Grad Kennedy Named IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

Mercyhurst graduate Trevor Kennedy was named 2016 Indoor Football League Offensive Rookie of the Year, as announced recently.

Kennedy, one of the top wide receivers in Laker history, excelled as a running back for the Spokane Empire of the 10-team IFL. Kennedy helped his team to a 12-4 record and apperance in the Intense Conference championship game.

Despite missing his team's final three games due to injury, Kennedy finished his rookie year as the league leader in rushing yards (720), rushing touchdowns (28) and total points scored (236). He was third in the IFL with 1,613 all-purpose yards.

Kennedy, a native of Akron, Ohio, finished with 39 total touchdowns: 28 rushing, nine receiving, one on a field-goal return and one on a kickoff return. Through the air, he finished with 35 receptions for 273 yards.

At the end of the regular season, Kennedy was named to the All-IFL First Team.

Kennedy's name still appears throughout the Laker record book. He holds single-season marks for receptions (88), yards (1,389) and touchdowns (15) -- all of which occurred in 2011. Kennedy is also tied for most touchdown receptions in a career (28) while rating second in receptions (194), yards (2,758) and all-purpose yards (4,249). The two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference First Team honoree graduated in 2012.
