Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team secured their second win of the weekend coming out on top of a tightly contested game against East Stroudsburg, with a score of 74-71. The addition of this win puts Mercyhurst at a 7-1 overall record while having a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record of 4-0 on the season.
Mercyhurst led throughout the majority of the game taking it from the Warriors with five minutes left in the second quarter. At its highest point the Lakers held a 14 point over the Warriors. During their hot streak Mercyhurst had points scored from five different scorers, the most prominent being sophomore
Maria Lapertosa adding five points. The Lakers held on to the lead until there was less than five minutes left in the game. In which a jumper from Madison Tamburini of East Stroudsburg snatched the lead from the hands of the Lakers. A quick response from
Natalie Piaggesi who made two layups, put the Lakers back in the lead for the remainder of the game.
Piaggesi led the team in scoring being the only member from either team to break the 20 point mark by throwing up 25, shooting 11-18 (61%) from inside the arc. In addition Piaggesi threw out five assists and ripped down seven rounds in all for the Lakers.
Angela Heintz was the second highest scorer for the Lakers posting 15 points shooting 7-12 (58%) from the field. Also Heintz dished out a game high eight assists while also pulling down nine rebounds.
As a team the Lakers shot 29-64 (45%) from inside the three point line, while holding the warriors to 20-56 (38%). Their highest scoring percentages when shooting from the field, came from the last three quarters shooting for 47% in the second, 56% in the third and 46% in the fourth. East Stroudsburg only shot more efficiently than Mercyhurst in the first quarter by going 5-15 (36%).
Leading scorers for the Warriors were Imani Brown, and Allison Howard who put up 19 and 17 points respectively.
The Lakers will take the court next on the road against Ursuline College, on December 7th at 5:30 PM.
