Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team lost the second game of a two-game set at Lindenwood 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams played another scoreless first period similar to Friday's contest. The Lakers held the shot advantage 10-6 in the period, including five shots on two power play opportunities.
The game remained scoreless until the 15:59 mark in the second period. Mercyhurst went to the penalty box for a tripping call and Lindenwood capitalized on the ensuing power play. Shannon Morris-Reade's tally put the Lions in front 1-0.
Mercyhurst responded before the end of the period to tie the score.
Sarah Hine scored her third goal of the season at even strength assisted by
Jennifer MacAskill and
Michele Robillard to knot the game at one.
In the third period, another Lindenwood power play put the Lions back into the lead for good. Taylor Girard scored on at the 7:23 mark to put Lindenwood back in front 2-1. Mercyhurst pulled goalie
Jessica Convery with 1:32 remaining for the extra attacker, but Lindenwood countered with an empty net goal from Girard with 1:16 on the clock to put the Lakers away 3-1.
The Lakers (6-11-1, 3-5-0) will travel to Princeton next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10-11, Friday's game starts at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday's puck drop is 1:00 p.m.
