Men's Tennis Knocks Off Bloomsburg, 8-1, Sunday Morning

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University men's tennis team lost the first match of the day but then rattled off eight straight victories to take care of Bloomsburg University, 8-1, on Sunday morning at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Lakers improved to 12-5 overall while the Huskies dropped to 4-11 on the season.

In the first result of the day, junior Robert Rizea and sophomore Ross Molinaro IV suffered an 8-6 loss at #3 doubles to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. But, Mercyhurst won the next two doubles matches and then all six singles matches to cruise to the victory.

Junior Travis Beck and freshman Nenad Terzic won 8-5 at #1 doubles while freshman Andoni Marquez and sophomore Conor McCooey teamed up for a 9-7 win at #2.

Terzic, Beck, McCooey, and Molinaro IV all won in straight sets during singles action. Both Rizea and Marquez lost their first sets but then won the next two in their matches to complete the singles sweep for the Lakers.

The Lakers are now scheduled to compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament beginning on Friday, April 24, back in Bloomsburg. Mercyhurst enters as the third seed and will take on Kutztown in a semifinal match. The Lakers lost to the Golden Bears, 5-4, on Saturday, April 18.
