Box Score
ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst men's soccer faced off against the University of District Columbia in a non-conference matchup resulting in a Laker, 4-0, victory,

Jack Watson had a career day to lead the Lakers scoring all four goals.

In the first half, the game was played tight throughout the first 30 minutes of action, then, Watson went to work. He scored at the 32:04 mark off a Fernando Martinez pass from the right side. The pass found Watson at the top of the box where he struck a ball to the upper left corner for a, 1-0, halftime lead. It was Martinez's fourth assist of the season.

Watson continued to perform as he scored almost ten minutes into the second half. At the 52:24 mark, Senior Ryan Lund put a beautiful lead pass at the feet of Watson where he was able to finish off the job beating the keeper to the upper right to go up, 2-0. The assist was Lund's first of the season.

In the 68th minute, Watson struck again. This time, he did it on his own beating his defender with a dribble move just outside the box to strike a shot into the right corner of the net for a 3-0 advantage.

His final goal of the afternoon came in the 77th minute off a Danny Deakin pass from midfield that found Watson right outside the top of the box setting up another airstrike upper right. It was Deakin's fourth assist of the year.

Watson, a Dublin, Ireland native, now has 10 goals less than half way through the season. The last time a Mercyhurst men's soccer player scored four goals in a game was Anthony Maher vs. Assumption on September 1, 2000. That game resulted in a 5-4 Mercyhurst victory.

Also, Watson's performance was the first time a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) player has scored four goals in a game since 2008 when West Chester's Mike Pryor did so against Mercyhurst.

The Lakers outplayed the Fire Birds out shooting them in the contest 16-5.

Goal keeper Ryan Arvin got his second start in net and recorded three saves for his first shutout of the season. His record improved to 2-0-0.

With the win, the Lakers record is 6-2-0 (1-1-0 PSAC) while the Fire Birds drop to 4-2-1 overall.

The men will be back in action Saturday, September 27, against Cedarville (Ohio). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
