ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst University (0-2-0) battled Drexel University (2-0-0) in a 2-0 contest on Sunday at Saxon Stadium. The Lakers generated six shots on goal and created several offensive opportunities throughout the match.
The matchup began with the Lakers seeking to establish early momentum, earning a corner kick just over two minutes into the contest. Mercyhurst continued to create opportunities, with shots from Luis Felipe Santos and Max Beech coming close to finding the target. As the half progressed, the Lakers continued to apply pressure, securing several corner kicks and keeping the Drexel defense busy.
In the 31st minute, Drexel took the lead with a goal. The Lakers responded by intensifying their offensive efforts, evident in attempts by Santos, Ronny Wakelin, and Alvar Silva. Mercyhurst continued to push forward and create chances as the first half closed with the Lakers trailing 1-0.
The second half began with the Lakers pressing forward, as Silva took a shot in the 50th minute that was saved by Drexel's goalkeeper. Mercyhurst continued to generate offensive opportunities, including a shot by Harrison Dudley that went wide, while maintaining pressure in the attacking third.
In the 57th minute, Drexel extended its lead with a goal. Mercyhurst responded by maintaining pressure, earning multiple corner kicks and shots on goal, including an attempt by Tyler Prex that was saved. The Lakers continued to compete and create opportunities through the remainder of the half.
Santos led the team with four shots, including two on goal. Silva contributed three shots, two of which were on target. Jaime Tedaldi made two saves while tending the goal for the full 90 minutes.
