ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University men's tennis team won its second consecutive match of the spring season, defeating West Liberty University on Sunday afternoon by an 8-1 final at the Pennbriar Athletic Club. The Lakers improved to 3-2 overall on the season.
The Lakers won all three doubles matches and then picked up five victories in six doubles contests to improve to 2-0 in the spring. The only setback on Sunday was a straight set loss by
Robert Rizea against West Liberty's Alex Hayden at #2 singles.
Rizea and
Daniel Gimenez earned an 8-2 victory at #2 doubles to get the day started for the Lakers.

Eric Drusko followed suit at #3 and then
Travis Beck and
Conor McCooey made it a clean sweep of the doubles with an 8-3 win at #1.
McCooey had an easy time against Nick Comforti in singles action, not losing a game in his match and winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Drusko also had an easy time at #5 singles, defeating Zach Kirkwood, 6-1, 6-1.
Ross Molinaro IV won by default at #6 singles after West Liberty's #3 player, Pablo Cimorra, got ill after his doubles match.
Beck and Gimenez had to put in extra work to earn victories in their singles matches. Beck won in three sets, winning the third set by an 11-9 final. Gimenez also won in three sets, but had to go to 13-11 in the third to finally pick up the win.
Mercyhurst will be back in action on Saturday, March 1, when it hosts Bloomsburg at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
