Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season over Lake Erie College on Tuesday afternoon, 2-0. The Lakers improve to 1-1-1 in the season. Lake Erie College dropped to 1-2-0.
Sophomore
Ellie McDougall captured her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career. McDougall (1-1-1) made five saves on net in the entire 90:00 minutes of play.
Senior
Gabrielle Catrabone scored her first goal of the season unassisted at the 10:52 mark into the first half. The Lakers were on a scoring chance which was broken up by the Lake Erie defense. Catrabone continued the play by making a one touch at the top of the penalty box before shooting the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Halfway through the first half, sophomore
Lauren Testa extended the lead by two. Junior
Emily Leiby passed a centering cross to Testa for her to have a one on one opportunity with the goaltender. Testa beat Lake Erie goaltender Samantha Wiles to the top right corner and lead 2-0. Sophomore
Nikki Charboneau also marked an assist.
The Lakers outshot the Storm 13 to six throughout the match. Testa tallied three shots all of which were on goal, while Marie Dunning marked two shots.
Mercyhurst returns to PSAC action when they travel to West Chester on Friday, September 13 with kickoff at 12 p.m. They will continue their on-road contest at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, September 14 at 12 p.m.
