BETHANY, W. Va.- The #1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team won, 20-4, at Ohio Valley Friday afternoon.
Jake McAndrew scored four goals in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) match, played at Bethany College in West Virginia.
The Lakers went up 7-0 in the first quarter, as McAndrew scored three times in the first nine minutes of action. The Scots got on the board late in the first period.
Brian Scheetz scored 44 seconds into the second frame and then McAndrew found the back of the net in a man-up situation with 11:55 to play.
Cory Becker scored another man-up goal a few minutes later, making it 10-1 Mercyhurst.
Matt Scharr's goal with 2:36 left in the half made it 12-3 at the break.
Brandon Thomson scored to open the third quarter and then
Justin Brophy scored with 8:48 to go for a 14-3 advantage. In the fourth,
Chris Dale got going, scoring twice early in the period.
McAndrew finished with four goals and an assist. Scheetz had a hat trick and a helper. Thomson totaled three goals, while Becky had a goal and two assists.
Michael Grace made two saves while playing the first quarter in goal.
Tyler Nash played the rest of the way, recording two stops of his own.
The Lakers outshot OVU, 41-16, and won 19-28 faceoffs.
Mercyhurst, on a 24-game regular season win streak, hosts Walsh in another ECAC contest on Sunday, March 24. Faceoff is slated for 3 p.m. at Tullio Field.
