ERIE, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Mercyhurst University women's hockey team hosts the University of Maine Black Bears for the first time since 2007 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Game one of the two game series is set for Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. The non-conference match-up will conclude on Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m.
Mercyhurst holds a lifetime 7-1-0 against the Black Bears dating back to their first meeting on November 24, 2000. During that series, the Lakers went 1-1 after dropping their only loss to Maine, 4-1. Since then Mercyhurst has collected six straight wins at both the Mercyhurst Ice Center and Alfond Arena. In the last five contests, the Lakers have outscored the Black Bears 28 to four.
Senior's
Christine Bestland and
Christie Cicero are the only two Lakers on the roster that have competed against the program. Bestland scored a goal and added three assists in the 6-1 meeting on October 10, 2010. Cicero attempted four shots on goal and had a +1 rating.
The University of Maine is looking for their win of the season after falling to 0-3-1 in their first four contests. Maine has been outscored by their opponents 16 to five. In their last meeting, the Black Bears faced ninth-ranked Quinnipiac 4-0 and 5-2. Karissa Kirkup was the only Black Bear to score a goal by notching two at the end of Saturday's contest. Emilie Brigham, Jennifer More, and Brianne Kilgour are the only other Bobcats that have tallied a goal this season.
