JAMESTOWN, N.Y.- The sixth ranked Mercyhurst University women's hockey team shut out Lindenwood University, 10-0 on Friday afternoon. The Lakers improved to 9-2-0 in the College Hockey America Conference and 18-4-1 overall. Lindenwood fell to 2-22-1 in the season and 2-8-1 in the conference.
Sophomore goaltender
Amanda Makela got the win for the Lakers. She made eight saves, in limited action, and improved her overall record to 8-3-1. Freshman
Julia DiTondo made her first collegiate appearance in net, playing 24:43 minutes and making nine saves.
With the game scoreless for the first eleven minutes, Mercyhurst exploded for a pair of goals in a 96-second span. Senior
Stephanie DeSutter scored her fourth goal of the season, a power-play, at 11:53 of the first. Junior

Jenna Dingeldein notched the assists.
Seconds later, Dingeldein tallied her first of two goals, beating Lindenwood goaltender Taylor Fairchild in the top right corner of the net. The Lakers finished the first period with a 3-0 lead as freshman
Emily Janiga scored Mercyhurst's second power-play goal of the period and her 16th goal of the season. That goal came at 18:22. Mercyhurst outshot Lindenwood 23-to-4 in the first period.
The Lakers tallied three more goals in the second period on just ten shots on goal. Dingeldein tallied her second goal of the game at 8:55 into the second. Junior captain
Christine Bestland had the lone assist.
Sophomore
Vaila Higson scored the Lakers' third power-play goal of the afternoon at 12:47 and freshman
Jaclyn Arbour tallied her third goal of the season at 14:20. Sophomore
Shelby Bram collected two assists in the second.

Gina Buquet opened the third period with her third goal of the season at the 4:06 mark. Senior

Caroline Luczak scored 7:47 into the period and, less than a minute later, Janiga scored her second goal of the contest. Bestland had the assist. Sophomore
Kristine Grenier completed the scoring with her third of the season at 17:36.
Bestland's four assists on Friday moved her to within six of having 100 helpers as a Mercyhurst Laker. The junior's fourth assist was her 150th career point.

Shelby Bram's four assists against Lindenwood marked a career one-game high. DeSutter's goal was her second career game-winner goal and sophomore
Caroline Luczak notched her first career goal as a Laker.
The Lakers outshot Lindenwood 15-to-7 in the third, and 48-to-17 over 60 minutes. The Lakers finished 3-for-4 on the power-play and killed all five of their penalties.
Mercyhurst has won all three meetings this season with the Lady Lions. Lindenwood scored the first goal of the series on November 2 but, since then, the Lakers have tallied 22 goals in succession - 6-1, 6-0, and 10-0.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow at the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa. Faceoff is at 2:00 p.m. Tomorrow's contest will also conclude the “Skate for a Cure” weekend for the Mercyhurst Lakers. Admission is free at the Arena and the Lakers will be raffling off an autographed Mercyhurst University Women's Hockey Jersey.
