Jenna Dingeldein scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the eighth-ranked Mercyhurst University women's hockey team upset second-ranked Boston College 3-2 on Saturday. The Lakers improved to 17-4-1 in the season and ended Boston College's 13 game-winning and 18-game unbeaten streaks.
Senior goaltender
Stephanie Ciampa made a career-high 40 saves against the Eagles. Allowing only two goals in the entire 60 minutes, Ciampa improved to 10-1-0 in the season.

Emily Janiga scored her 15th goal of the season at the 9:50 mark of the first period as the Lakers took their first lead in the weekend series. Junior Captain

The Lakers were outshot 14-to-9 in the opening period but had the 1-0 edge. Mercyhurst is now 15-0-0 when scoring the first goal and 10-0-0 when leading after the first period.
Mercyhurst scored its second goal at 3:06 of the second. Bestland scored her 14
th goal of the season as she slid it past Eagles' goaltender Corrine Boyles on the Lakers' first power-play of the afternoon. Dingeldein and Cicero tallied the assists.
Boston College finally broke through Ciampa with four minutes remaining in the second. The Eagles' Melissa Bizzari scored from Kate Leary and Alex Carpenter. The Lakers defense, backstopped by Ciampa thwarted Boston College on two power-play chances later in the period. Despite trailing 2-1 after forty minutes, Boston College had a 27-17 advantage in shots.
Boston College's team captain, Blake Bolden, got the Eagles even with a goal at 3:10 into the third period. But moments later, with BC serving a minor penalty, Dingeldein blasted the puck behing Boyles for her first career game-winne. Cicero and Bestland battled for the puck behind the Eagles' net and Bestland finally took control. She then passed it to Dingeldein at the top of the crease and the freshman beat Boyles to the top right corner of the net.
Boston College dominated the remainderof the period but, despite pulling Boyles for an extra attacker in the final 90 seconds, couldn't get the equalizer. The Lakers had two chances at the empty net, but failed to capitalize. Boston Colleg outshot Mercyhurst 42-to-23. The Lakers defense held Boston College to 0-for-3 on the power-play Saturday and to just 1 for 7 in the series. The Lakers finished 2-for-5 Saturday and 3 for 13 in the two games.
Eagles' goaltender Corrine Boyles made 20 saves as her record dropped to 15-2-0 in the season.
Cicero tied a season-high with three helpers in Saturday's contest. She also extended her scoring streak to six games. Bestland notched a goal and two assists, while Dingeldein had a goal and an assist.
The Lakers are back in action on Friday, January 25 and Saturday January 26 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center against conference-rival Lindenwood. Face-offs are set for 3:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively. This contest will also mark the Lakers seventh annual “Pink the Rink” at the Ice Center. Last year, the CHA “Skate for a Cure” raised $12,391.52 and has amassed $65,000 in the past six years. Throughout the week the Lakers will be around campus collecting coins for the cure. There will also be some events at the Ice Center over the weekend.
