BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst University men's soccer scored two goals in the first half to shutout West Virginia Wesleyan Monday, 2-0. The Lakers move to a record of 5-3. Senior

The Lakers would take their chances early scoring both goals in the first half of the match. Sophomore
Fernando Martinez would score an unassisted goal, notching his first goal of the season. Mercyhurst would not score again until two minutes left in the half. Manea scored the second goal, making the score 2-0, off of a pass from senior
Austin Solomon.
The Bobcats out-shot the Lakers five to three and dominated the corners five to one. However they were unable to find the back of the net in the second half.
Senior
Diego Gustin made the two saves needed for the Lakers victory, tabbing his fourth shutout this season. Sophomore Derek Ayers received the loss in net for the Bobcats, making one save on three shots.
The Lakers host their regular season home opener on Friday, September 28 against West Chester University at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. They will continue their home series on Saturday, September 29 against Millersville University.
