Men's Soccer Falls to Ashland University 1-0 Sunday

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer fell to Ashland University Sunday with a score of 1-0.  The Lakers outshot the Eagles fourteen to eight, but could not find the back of the net.
 
The match was tied until the last nine minutes of the second half, when Ashland's Jamie Dollar scored the only goal of the game.  The goal was in the 68:26 mark of the game when defender Mitch Deyhle placed a corner kick into traffic.  Dollar was able to get a foot on the ball to place it past Mercyhurst goalie Diego Gustin.
 
The Lakers had an opportunity with a penalty kick late into the second half.  At the 80:39 mark,  Mercyhurst got a chance to come back when Michael Lennox took a penalty shot.  It was shot low and to the right side, however, Ashland's keeper Evan Bader made a diving save on the right side to help stop the Lakers.
 
Mercyhurst University cascades to a record of 0-2-0 of the season.   Ashland University takes their first win, 1-0-1.
 
The Lakers play again on the road on Friday, September 7, at the University of D.C. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
