Men's Hoops Takes on Edinboro in Final Home Game Wednesday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will take on Edinboro Wednesday night at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest marks the Lakers' final regular season home game. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Mercyhurst is 16-8 overall and 14-6 in the conference. Hurst has clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament. It split two games last week, winning, 68-65, at Gannon and then falling, 61-56, at home to California (Pa.). Luis Leao scored 15 points and blocked four shots in the loss to Cal.

Edinboro sports a 12-12 overall record and a 10-10 PSAC mark. The Fighting Scots defeated Clarion, 83-63, on February 18. Jay Fletcher and Isaiah Prince combined for 42 points in the victory, keeping Boro alive for a conference tournament berth.

The Lakers can clinch home court for a first round PSAC Tournament game with a win of one of their final two regular season contests. IUP has secured the Western Division regular season title. Slippery Rock sits alone in third place, one game back of Hurst. Cal has the inside track on the final seed at 12-8, but three teams are still competing for the bid. Clarion and Gannon are both 11-9 and Boro is 10-10 in the conference. With each team having two regular season matchups remaining, the possibilities are abundant.

Leao leads Mercyhurst with 15.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season. Matt Lee is putting up 15.3 points, having made 63 three-pointers this year.

Bryan Theriot, Boro's leading scorer and rebounder, has been out with an injury for a month. Fletcher is scoring 15.8 points, one of four other Scots averaging double-digits.

On January 25, the Lakers won at Edinboro, 76-62. Lee totaled a career-high 29 points in the victory.
