Mercyhurst Men's Basketball Announces 2026-27 Schedule Following Historic NEC Championship Run

ERIE, PA - Mercyhurst University's Men's Basketball team, led by head coach Gary Manchel, is thrilled to announce the schedule for the upcoming 2026-27 season. After an impressive run last season where they reached the NEC Championship final in their first eligible year.

The season tips off with a series of challenging non-conference games, starting on October 28th with an exhibition match against Louisville at their home court. Following this, the team stays on the road to face Marquette on November 2nd and Notre Dame on November 5th, providing early tests against formidable opponents. The Lakers will then host PSU Shenango on November 7th at 4:00 PM, marking their home opener and giving fans their first opportunity to see the team in action at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Continuing their non-conference slate, Mercyhurst will travel to Penn State on November 12th, followed by a matchup against JMU on November 15th. A unique stretch awaits as the Lakers participate in a series of games hosted by Canisius, facing Albany on November 20th, Canisius on November 21st, and Western Illinois on November 22nd.

Returning to their home court, the Lakers will welcome Fredonia St on November 24th. They then embark on a challenging road trip in December, featuring games against WVU on December 1st, Morgan State on December 5th, Coppin St on December 7th, and Syracuse on December 12th. A brief respite at home sees them face Mount Aloysius on December 14th, before concluding the year with a trip to Northwestern on December 16th and St Bonaventure on December 19th.

The new year brings a focus on conference play, beginning with an away game against New Haven on January 2nd, followed by Le Moyne on January 4th. The Lakers will host Stonehill on January 8th and Central Connecticut on January 10th, providing key opportunities to establish momentum in NEC competition. Mid-January sees away games at Wagner on January 14th, FDU on January 16th, and LIU on January 21st.

A highlight of the season will be the centennial celebration game against Le Moyne on January 23rd, a special event for the program, alumni, and fans. They will close out the month at home against Chicago State on the January 30th. 

February continues the rigorous schedule, as LIU travels to Mercyhurst on February 4th. The Lakers will then visit Stonehill on February 11th and Central Connecticut on February 13th, before a crucial away game at Chicago State on February 17th.

The final stretch of the regular season includes a home game against New Haven on February 20th, followed by FDU on February 25th, and culminates with a home game against Wagner on February 27th. As the regular season wraps up, the team sets its sights on the NEC Tournament, with games scheduled for March 3rd, 6th, and 9th, locations and opponents to be determined.
