Dingeldein Scores Hat Trick; #5 Women's Hockey Blanks Lions 6-0

Freshman Jenna Dingeldein scored three goals to lead the Lakers to a 6-0 win over Lindenwood Saturday.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Freshman Jenna Dingeldein scored her first career hat trick to lead fifth-ranked Mercyhurst to a 6-0 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers stretched their winning streak to five, and improved to 10-1-1.  Lindenwood fell to 0-8-0 in the season and dropped its first two conference games.
 
Dingeldein joined junior captain Christine Bestland and freshman Emily Janiga in scoring her first hat trick of her college career this season.
 
Lindenwood's goaltender Taylor Fairchild stopped 19 shots in the first period which ended scoreless.  The Lakers outshot Lindenwood 19 to five, including two power-play opportuntites.
 
One minute into the second, sophomore Vaila Higson scored her second goal of the season to put Mercyhurst ahead.  She was assisted by junior Kaleigh Chippy.  Dingeldein scored less than a minute later with help from senior assistant captain Gina Buquet and freshman Emily Janiga
 
Special teams scored back-to-back goals as Dingeldein notched her second goal of the game at 18:09 of the middle period.  She was set up by sophomore Molly Byrne, who leads the team in assists, and leading scorer Bestland.   Sophomore Shelby Bram extended the lead with a lamplighter with less than a minute left in the second.   Mercyhurst headed into the third with a four goal advantage, outshooting Lindenwood over two periods 49 to 9. 
 
The Lakers scored two more in the third to complete the scoring.  Dingeldein completed her hat trick at 13:39 in the third, and Higson scored her second goal of the game at 17:29.
 
The Lakers stopped all of Lindenwood's power-play chances, and scored two of their in the shutout  victory.  The Lakers outshot the Lions 64 to 17 over sixty minutes.
 
Mercyhurst senior goaltender Stephanie Ciampa remained undefeated this season (7-0-0), and is still unblemished in her career (11-0-0).  Fairchild fell to 0-2-0 for Lindenwood, making 58 saves and allowing six goals.

Ten different Lakers contributed to the two-game weeend sweep.  Dingeldein notched six points on the weekend on three goals and three assists.  Bestland had seven on three goals and four assists, and Higson collected five on two goals and three assists.  Both Bestland and Dingeldein scored a hat trick against the Lions.
 
The Lakers are off next weekend but hit the road again Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 at Yale University.  Mercyhurst has a 9-0-1 lifetime advantage over Yale, and is 3-0 at New Haven, Connecticut.    The puck drops Friday at 7:00 p.m. and again Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
