No. 9 Women's Hockey Travels to Quinnipiac for Two-Game Series

The Lakers lead the overall series 12-1-0 against the Quinnipiac Bobcats.
HAMDEN, Conn. – No. 9 Mercyhurst women's hockey team will travel to Hamden, Conn. to compete against Quinnipiac University on Friday and Saturday, coming off of a weekend sweep against RIT.  The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday at High Points Solutions Arena.
 
The Lakers are 12-1-0 lifetime against Quinnipiac. Quinnipiac's only defeat against the Lakers was a 1-0 win over Mercyhurst back on October 1, 2011 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers were the ninth-ranked team in Division I at that point in the season. Mercyhurst is 3-0-0 lifetime in Hamden, Conn.
 
Junior captain Christine Bestland scored three goals and four assists against RIT last weekend.  Freshman Emily Janiga posted five points, including a hat-trick on Saturday's game and two assists.  Sophomore Molly Byrne, coming off a 34 points rookie season, scored one goal and assisted three during the weekend sweep.
 
Quinnipiac finished their preseason last weekend with a 7-0 victory over Cambridge in an exhibition game.  Junior Erica Uden Johansson scored twice and assisted one.  Junior Kelly Babstock, who was leading scorer with 40 points (18-22) in the 2011-12 season, also scored a goal against Cambridge. Babstock was the all-time Quinnipaic leader for assists, goals and points last season.  The Bobcats received two votes in the USCHO.com Division I women's hockey poll and were predicted sixth in the ECAC Preseason Poll Results.  They finished their 2011-12 campaign with a 19-16-2 overall record and were 12-8-2 in ECAC competition.
