ERIE, Pa. – No. 9 Mercyhurst women's hockey will host Providence College on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa.  Friday's contest is set for 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. 
 
The Lakers are 9-3-0 lifetime against the Friars.  The last time Providence beat the Lakers was 7-3 on January 12, 2008 in front of their home-town crowd.  The Lakers are 3-1-0 lifetime at the Mercyhurst Ice Center against the Friars, last time sweeping Providence at a home series, 5-0 and 3-0 the second.
 
The Lakers are currently 3-0-1 in the season, leaving Hamden, Conn. with a win and a tie against Quinnipiac University.  Junior captain 
Christine Bestland is currently in the lead for the Lakers in points with 10 on four goals and six assists.   Freshman 
Emily Janiga started her young career strong, recording her first hat-trick on Saturday, September 29 against RIT.   Janiga is second in points on the team with seven and leads the team in goals with five.   Junior 
Christie Cicero is second behind Bestland in assists with five, and has one goal against RIT on September 28.  Senior goaltender 
Stephanie Ciampa owns a 2-0-0 record and is first in the CHA with a 1.50 goals against average, and second in saving percentage, .925.
 
Providence College started the regular season last weekend with a spilt at Bemidji State.  Nicole Anderson is leading the Friars in points with three on two goals and one assist.  Molly Illkainen is tied with Anderson in points on one goal and two assists from last weekend's performance.  The Friars have ten different players notching points against Bemidji State.
 
There will be an autograph signing with the Lakers for the youth audience following each contest over the weekend.
