Coach McKinnon is pleased to announce that Devon Swanson, a 2010 graduate of Mercyhurst College is getting ready to broadcast his first live play by play AHL (American Hockey League) game tonight. Devon worked with the Mercyhurst ACHA D1 team for 2 years prior to graduation, assisting with play by play, color commentary and broadcast production. Since leaving Mercyhurst, Devon has been serving as a broadcast intern for the AHL's Providence Bruins (farm team of the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins) since this past October. Devon is currently studying at the University of Rhode Island in pursuit of a doctoral degree.
Devon is looking forward to his first professional hockey game broadcast and appreciates the Providence Bruins organization for giving him this opportunity to fill in for the main broadcaster at tonight's game. "Our program is very proud of Devon and excited for his opportunity to call his first professional game tonight. We wish him the best in his future pursuit of a career within the hockey broadcasting industry," commented Coach McKinnon. "There is no doubt that he has the talent and knowledge to further his career in that direction."
