The Mercyhurst Lakers ACHA D1 Hockey team split their weekend series with John Carroll University over the past weekend with identical 5-4 scores. On Friday night at John Carroll, Mercyhurst jumped out to early two goal leads twice within the first half of the game only to see John Carroll battle back to tie it before the end of the second period. Patrick Mayhew would eventually net the game winner late in the third.
On Saturday, the series returned to Mercyhurst with similar results through the first half of the game. Mercyhurst seemed to dominate the first period of play going up by two goals early only to have John Carroll battle back the same way they did the night before. John Carroll proved themselves resilient throughout the weekend series and were rewarded with the win on Saturday night at the MIC.
Overall, it was a great weekend of hockey that saw end to end action and two evenly matched teams battle for wins. Each team traded 3 power play goals over the weekend.
Next up for the Lakers is a key ECHL league match-up against Canisius College. Mercyhurst will play at home on Friday night and will travel to the Nichols Arena in Buffalo on Saturday night for their home and home match. Both games start at 10pm.
