Men's Hoops Looks to Extend Streak at Cal (Pa.) Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball heads to California (Pa.) Saturday, January 28, for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

Hurst enters Saturday on a four-game winning streak. It won its last game, 76-62, at Edinboro January 25. Matt Lee scored a career-high 29 points, hitting five three-pointers in the win. Cal also won a road game Wednesday, taking a 76-63 decision at Clarion. Six Vulcans scored between 10 and 13 points as they used a strong second half to beat the Eagles.
 
The Lakers are 12-5 overall and 10-3 in the PSAC, placing them second in the Western Division. They are one game behind #16 Indiana (Pa.). California stands at 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the league. It is tied for fourth place in the West with Clarion.
 
Matt Lee leads Mercyhurst with 16.1 points per game, having made 46 treys. Andrew Rickard and Bill Weaver are both scoring 12 points per game, while Jamal Turner is dishing out five assists a contest. Chad Tipton is averaging a team-high 11.8 points for Cal. He has connected on 48 threes this season. Steve Swiech is totaling 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Hurst ranks as one of the top ball handling teams in the PSAC, as it leads the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.2) and turnover margin (+3.59).  Coach Gary Manchel's squad has also hit 130 three-pointers, most in the conference. The Vulcans are third in scoring defense (66.4 points) and field goal percentage defense (.413).
