ERIE, Pa. - Junior
Kyle Kallay put on a season-high six-point performance as the sixth-ranked Mercyhurst College men's lacrosse team defeated East Coast Conference opponent and eighth-ranked Mercy, 9-7, on Saturday afternoon at Tullio Field.
Kallay accounted for more than half of the offense and helped the Lakers bounce back from their first loss of the season with five goals and an assist, falling just one point shy of tying his career-high of seven points set last season at Dominican (N.Y.) May 8, 2010.
Mercyhurst rebounded from a 2-1 deficit in the first by outscoring the Mavericks, 6-3, over the next two frames to take an 8-6 lead into the fourth. Both teams then traded scored in the fourth, with Mercy getting the final marker on an unassisted play with 3:01 showing on the clock.
Kallay led the Lakers during their comeback with three of his five scores, including the game-winner, coming in the second half.
The Lakers finished the game with a 43-26 advantage in shots and got eight saves from senior
Zach Nash, who moved to 4-1 for the season. MC also held an 18-9 edge in ground balls and committed seven less than turnovers than Mercy, 23-16.
Mercyhurst continues conference play on Tuesday, Mar. 22 with a 4 p.m. contest at Lake Erie.
