Basketball Teams Begin PSAC Action on Road This Weekend

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst basketball teams will head east this weekend, as the men and the women take on Millersville November 19, and then West Chester November 20, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests.

For the first time, teams from the PSAC West will face every team in the East this season. The games count as conference games on the schedule.
 
The women face Millersville at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lakers are 0-2 after the Timberwolf Classic. Freshman Lindsay Stamp scored 41 points in the two games, including 28 at Northwood, on her way to being named PSAC West Freshman of the Week.
 
Millersville has yet to play in 2011-12. The Marauders won 22 games last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. They return Mashira Newman and Aurielle Mosley, who were both selected preseason all-PSAC East.
 
The men also take on Millersville Saturday, at 3 p.m. Hurst won its season opener November 12, beating Urbana, 74-58. Andrew Rickard (19), Bill Weaver (16), and Jonathan Ouegnin (14) each scored career highs. Jamal Turner dished out 10 assists.
 
The Marauders are 2-0, having defeated Central Penn and Lincoln (Pa.) to begin the campaign. Larry Grant and C.J. Scott lead the team in scoring, combining for 27.5 points per game.
 
On Sunday, the Lakers travel to West Chester. The Golden Rams' women's team tipped off the new season with a 78-77 at Philadelphia November 15. Alex Lennon led with 16 points, eight boards, and six blocked shots.
 
On the men's side, West Chester beat University of Sciences, 62-53, to start the 2011-12 season. Lance McDowell scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in the victory.
