ERIE, Pa. -- Christoph Hampel registered two goals and Matias Karioja, Alex Manea and Tommy Lund each posted single tallies in No. 19 Mercyhurst College's 5-0 triumph over Lake Erie College at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.

The win avenges a 3-1 loss to the Storm (0-7-0) a year ago and gives Mercyhurst (5-0-1) a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.

The Lakers' overpowered the Storm throughout the game, holding a hefty first-half advantage in shots on goal, while the Mercyhurst defense limited Lake Erie to just two shots for the game, both of which were turned away by starting keeper Diego Gustin

Karioja opened the scoring on a beautifully sunny day, putting a rebound shot from Manea into the top left corner just over 10 minutes into the game to mark his first career goal as a Laker.

The duo of Karioja and Manea would strike again nearly eight minutes later, this time though it was Karioja providing the assist on Manea's fourth goal of the season at 17:51.

In the second half, Hampel took a cross pass from Sam Gore and booted the ball in the top right corner at 48:32.

Hampel made it a 4-0 advantage in the 67th minute when his ball from Manea rifled in the right corner again. Mercyhurst's dominate offensive showing ended just over two minutes later in the 69th minute when Lund found the back of the net from Oliver Gage's pass.

Goalkeepers Gustin and Ryan Wagner combined for the team's third shutout of the year.

Mercyhurst looks to remain undefeated on Friday, Sept. 24 when they take on Findlay in the second game of a three-game homestand. Friday's contest against the Oilers also serves as the beginning of Homecoming weekend at the 'Hurst, with fans having another opportunity to see the Lakers in action on Sunday, Sept. 6 against Tiffin.

Game-time for Friday is set for 4 p.m. while Sunday's contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
