Women's Golf in 10th Place After Round One at Cal (Pa.)

Belle Vernon, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's golf team is in 10th place after Sunday's first round at the Cal Vulcans Women's Golf Invitational, held in Belle Vernon, Pa.

The Lakers registered 373 strokes as a team and are in 10th place out of 13 schools after one round of competition. Grand Valley State leads with 316 strokes, followed by Cal (Pa.) with 322, Pfeiffer University with 325, Indianapolis with 325, and Southern Indiana to round out the top five. Mercyhurst is trailing Kutztown by three strokes for ninth place.

Sophomore Vicki Bendus leads the Lakers after one round, as she is in a tie for 28th place out of 73 competitors with a first-round score of 88. Kaitlin Brody shot an 89, recording 44 strokes on the front nine and 45 on the back nine, and is tied for 36th place. Mattye Laurer shot a 97 and is in 58th place. Alanna Kirwan and Lauren Montebell are tied for 59th place, having both shot 99 for the first round. 

Charlene Reid from Pfeiffer is in first place with a one-over-par 73.
