Erie, Pa. – The No. 5 Mercyhurst College men's lacrosse team posted 16 goals in the first half en route to a 20-4 victory over Grand Canyon Sunday afternoon at Tullio Field. 12 different players contributed offense as the Lakers improved their record 9-1 overall and 4-0 at home.

Cameron McLean added two tallies to improve his team-leading goal total to 24. Seniors

and Philip Johnson# rounded out the scoring with goals.
Mercyhurst erased an early 1-0 deficit with 13 straight goals, seven of which came during a four minute and 21 second span. The Lakers scored eight times in the first quarter before opening the second with five more to stake a 13-1 lead. Mercyhurst reeled off another three in the final minutes to take a 16-3 advantage into halftime.
With the lead, the Lakers possessed the ball in the second half, closing down the offense with four goals in the third while chewing up the fourth quarter with just five shot attempts.
All three goaltenders saw action for the second straight game. Senior
Jason LaShomb improved his record to 9-1 with two saves in 16:36. Sophomore
Zach Nash recorded six stops in 22:05 while classmate
Michael Jeschawitz closed out the game's 21:19 with one save.
The Lakers held a 55-21 edge in shots and a 38-16 advantages in ground balls. Mercyhurst won 18-of-27 faceoffs taken in the match.
Mercyhurst returns to conference play this weekend with a contest at sixth-ranked Molloy on Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m.
